giambattista valli : pre-fall 2010
season after season, giambattista valli effortlessly reinvents lady-like chic. we've seen fur, kimonos, even peacock feathers. his pre-fall 2010 collection was no exception. ever the lady from the neck down, it was the hair and make-up that helped set the mood for this transitional show. sleek hair and dark, moody (angry even) eyes were complimented by the lady's less than pleased stance and foreboding expression. plush fur and form fitting cocktail dresses coupled with sweet mary-jane heals and opaque tights deliver just the touch of elegance we have come to expect from the french designer. while this lady may lunch, it seems best to stay out of her way.

i'm usually exclusively drawn to clean muted palettes (my own apartment is as white as can be) yet can't help but be inspired by this vibrant and fun use of color. to successfully use purple, orange and zebra in one room (a rather tiny one no less) is no small feat. this space is smart and sophisticated while at the same time energetic and fun. perhaps a little life to my own small space is in order.

taking a cue from the classic (and my personal all-time favorite) movie, love story, prada's pre-fall 2010 show could easily have been set on a new england campus circa 1970. the ivy league inspired smart yet chic school girl look has been updated in a quintessentially prada way - deep muted colors, slightly boxy fit, thick textures and thigh high hemlines. i'm sure ali macgraw would approve.

proenza schouler pre-fall 2010
the boys at proenza schouler showed some back to school chic looks for their pre-fall 2010 collection. the looks, coupled with the models blunt bangs and awkward stance capture the essence of joy inspired by the early morning wake-up and pop quizzes. it's sort of like a high-fashion groundhogs day, the same intense coat in two different colors thrown over essentially the same look- both equal in perfection.

as spring slowwwly approaches, i have been revisiting some of my favorite moments from the spring 2010 shows. the lanvin show may take the cake as the most eye catching. layers and layers of chiffon, dark smokey eyes, sequins, beads and piles of jewels. what is not to love?
